Soya beans

From: $4.00

Soy beans are small, oval shaped, light tan in colour, and better known in processed form in foods such as soy milk, tofu, tempeh and soy sauce than as an actual bean! This Asian beauty comes originally from China, and is a member of the pea family. The great secret about these beans is that they are an amazing source of high-quality protein… and PS: they have a gorgeous nutty flavour! They contain all the essential amino acids, similar to those found in meat. They are fantastic in soups, stews, casseroles and salads!

  • How To Use
Once cooked, soybeans can be used as you would other beans by adding to soups or stews. If you're feeling adventurous, why not try to make your own soymilk at home? It is easier than you think and you don't need any hi-tech equipment! Soak the beans overnight, then remove the hulls. Blend the beans with water (one litre of water to 125g dry soybeans) then sieve through a cheesecloth, retaining the liquid. Boil the soy milk in a pan for five to ten minutes then refrigerate before serving. It's as simple as that to make home-made, healthy soy milk to pour on your cereal or use in delicious smoothies.
